About Christopher Reid
A well-known proponent of the Martian School of poetry of the 1980, the poet's early works were characterized by a blend of startling metaphors and imagery. His debut poetry collection “Arcadia” earned him the Hawthornden Prize and the 1980 Somerset Maugham Award.
Background
Born in Hong Kong to British parents, he moved to London and studied at the Oxford University graduating in1971. He has worked as a lecturer, a freelance journalist and as a poetry editor.
Notable Works
His 1985 poetry collection “Katerina Brac,” which features a fictional European woman, is generally considered as one of his masterpieces. His 2009 collection “A Scattering” was written as a tribute to his deceased wife, Lucinda Ganes. It won the Costa Awards “Book of the Year.” Other collections are “Pea Soup,” “In the Echoey Tunnel,” “Expanded Universes,” “For and After” and “Mr. Mouth.” His children's poetry collections include “All Sorts” and “Alphabicycle Order.”
