About Colin McRae
Colin McRae was a Scottish rally driver famed for winning the British Rally Champion in 1992 and the 1995 World Rally Championship. His career and life came to a tragic end in 2007 when he died in a helicopter crash. He was 39. For his contributions to motorsport, he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1996. He also received a posthumous induction into the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
Family Life
He was the son of Margaret McRae and renowned rally driver Jimmy McRae. He grew up with a younger brother, Alister McRae, who also became a renowned racing driver. He was married to Alison McRae, with whom he had two children: Johnny and Hollie.
Trivia
In 2011, a judicial investigation concluded that the helicopter crash that killed him in 2007 occurred because he flew the helicopter recklessly. The crash also killed his five-year-old son Johnny and two family friends.
