About Compay Segundo
The Cuban singer and guitarist rose to international fame as the leader of the group of musicians who recorded the Grammy Award-winning “Buena Vista Social Club.”
Childhood
Born in Siboney, Cuba, he started playing the clarinet in the Municipal Band of Santiago de Cuba.
As an Artist
In his early 90s, he was acclaimed for his contributions to American musician and composer Ry Cooder's renowned album “Buena Vista Social Club” which won several Grammy awards. In the autumn of that year, he went on a European tour.
In 1955, he decided to go solo and founded the Los Muchachos band. Later that year, “Flores de la Vida" was released.
A versatile artist in all regards, Segundo landed roles in such films as “Keeping the Faith” and “Money Heist”.
Trivia
He was born Máximo Francisco Repilado Muñoz Telles.
