About Ed Balls
Ed Balls started his political career during his high school days when he joined the Labour Party. After graduating from the university, he worked as a teacher before becoming an economic writer at the Financial Times.
In 1994, he became an adviser to Gordon Brown, who was then a Shadow Chancellor. He went on to work in the office of the Treasury as the Chief Economic Advisor. After the elections in 2005, he became a Member of Parliament for the people of Normanton. Six years later, he was named the Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer and served in that position until 2015.
Family
He’s one of the children of Michael Balls, a renowned British zoologist, and his partner Carolyn Janet Riseborough. Andrew Balls, a businessman and journalist, is his junior brother.
In 1998, he married politician Yvette Cooper, and they have three children as of November 2021.
Education
He had his education at Nottingham High School before joining Keble College, Oxford where he read PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics). He majored in Economics at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

In high school, he played the violin.
He participated in the 14th edition of the reality series “Strictly Come Dancing”.
He became very popular on Twitter after he accidentally tweeted his name in 2011. In view of this, April 28 of every year is celebrated as “Ed Balls Day” on the app.
