About Edward Sedgwick
A circus performer turned film filmmaker, Edward Sedgwick was known for his silent films like “The Cameraman”, and “Spite Marriage”.
Early Life
Born to stage actors, Sedgwick started performing as a vaudeville from the age of four, and by seven, he performed his first comedic role in a play written by his father. He attended St. Mary's University, Galveston, and upon graduation, he joined the military, where he served briefly.
Career
This Texan signed a deal with a production giant in the late 1920s and started collaborating with actor and film writer Buster Keaton. Sedgwick directed some of Keaton’s 1930s films like “Free and Easy”, “Doughboys”, and “What! No Beer?” He also directed the 1938 comedy film “The Gladiator”, which starred Man Mountain Dean and Joe E. Brown.
Sadly in the 1940s, his career began to decline. It is reported he discovered the talented actress Lucille Ball and appeared in a few episodes of the sitcom “I Love Lucy”.
Death
He died of a heart attack in 1953, aged 63.
Personal Life
Ed, as he was fondly called, married Ebba Havez in 1933 and he had three children.
