About Edwin H. Land
Despite initial challenges with acquiring equipment to aid in his research, American scientist Edwin H. Land resorted to extreme measures, including using a university laboratory without authorization to achieve his goals. He is remembered best for his invention of the polarizing film and the Polaroid instant camera (referred to as the Land Camera), which helped people take and develop photos in or under 60 seconds. He was the co-founder of the Polaroid Corporation, which became known for its production of instant films and cameras.
Family Life
He was the son of a Russian scrap-metal dealer, Harry Land and his wife, Matie Goldfaden. He was married to Helen Terre Maislen with whom he had two daughters.
Achievements
He was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, National Medal of Technology, IRI Medal, Harold Pender Award and Perkin Medal.
Death
He died at 81 years old on March 1, 1991.
