This Spanish actress was best known for featuring in movies such as "Adventures of the Barber of Seville" and "Golden Goddess of Rio Beni". In the latter, which was a 1964 adventure film directed by Franz Eichhorn, Penella appeared in a cast that included Pierre Brice and Gillian Hills.
Early Life
The actress was born to Ramón Ruiz Alonso and Magdalena Penella Silva. She fell in love with the big screens and participated in several auditions in hopes of elevating her talent to a professional level.
Career
Her prayers were answered as she made her professional debut in the 1952 Spanish-Italian thriller film "The Eyes Leave a Trace", which was directed by José Luis Sáenz de Heredia. Penella then went on to appeared in "What Madness!" in 1953, “Adventures of the Barber of Seville” in 1954, and “Back to the Door” in 1959.
In 1986, she was cast in “El Amor brujo”, a musical film written and directed by Spanish filmmaker Carlos Saura. In film, she appeared alongside Antonio Gades, Cristina Hoyos, and Laura del Sol.
Penella also starred in a number of popular TV series, including "Aquí no hay quien viva" and "La que se avecina".
Personal Life
The actress tied the knot with Spanish film producer Emiliano Piedra in 1967. The marriage lasted until 1991, when Emiliano passed away.
Penella died of sepsis in 2007. She was 76 years old.
