About Ethel Barrymore
The 19th- century radio, stage, and TV actress, Ethel Barrymore was a native of America. She was widely recognized as the First Lady of the American Theatre. In 1895, she made her first Broadway appearance with the play titled “The Imprudent Young Couple”.
After being featured in several plays, she finally rose to stardom in 1901 when she was cast in “Captain Jinks of the Horse Marines” as Madame Trentoni. Barrymore starred in numerous plays such as “The Constant Wife” in 1926, “Rasputin and the Empress” in 1932, and “Sons of the Desert” in 1933.
In 1914, she made her motion picture debut with “The Nightingale”. Other films she appeared in include “The Awakening of Helena Richie” in 1916, and “The Call of Her People” in 1917.
Family
She was the child of Georgiana Drew and Maurice Barrymore. She had three siblings named John Barrymore, and Lionel Barrymore. In 1909, she became the wife of Russell Griswold Colt but divorced him in 1923. She gave birth to three children, Ethel Barrymore Colt, John Drew Colt, and Samuel Colt. Her relatives include John Drew Barrymore (aunt), John Drew Jr (niece), Sidney Drew (niece), and Louisa Lane Drew (granddaughter).
Death
In 1959, she died of cardiovascular disease.

In 1944, she was the recipient of the Academy Award for “Best Supporting Actress”.
