About Frank Seiberling
Reputed for his generosity and kindness towards his employees and community, the founder of GoodYear Tires and Rubber Company served as the company’s president until 1921. He also helped invent the first universal tire rims.
Background
Originally from Summit County, Ohio, Seiberling studied at the Heidelberg College in Tiffin. He inherited his father's business acumen and went into banking, electrical railways and other business ventures.
Notable Facts
He started the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron in 1898. The company soon gained a reputation in the manufacturing of such items as bicycle tires, automobile tires and hoses. A philanthropic soul, he donated huge sums of money for humanitarian purposes. He also sat on the board of Trustees of Buchtel College and played an instrumental role in transitioning the institution to the University of Akron.
Personal Life
In 1866, he married Gertrude Ferguson Penfield, with whom he had 7 children. The couple remained married until Gertrude’s death.
