About Frank Sutton
Actor Frank Sutton first served in the US Army from 1943 to 1946 (also fought in World War II) before starting a career on stage.
He got his big break in 1964 when he was cast as Gunnery Sergeant Vince Carter in one episode of “The Andy Griffith Show” titled “Gomer Pyle, USMC”, which would later become the first episode of a sitcom of the same name. He played the role, his best-known, until 1969.
Family Life
He was raised in the state of Tennessee, United States. He was the father of playwright Joe Sutton, one of his two children with his soap opera writer wife, Toby M Igler.
Achievements
He was honored with the US Army’s Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service.
Death
He was killed by a heart attack at the age of 50 on 28 June 1974.
