About Gabriele D'Annunzio
Gabriele D'Annunzio was one of the prominent Italian poets during the late 1880s. Known to be a member of the famous Decadent movement, D'Annunzio published his first poem at age 16 which was entitled “Primo Vere”.
The writer gained the respect of many scholars with his first novel titled “The Child of Pleasure (Il Piacere) which was published in 1889. He went on to publish other popular novels such as “The Triumph of Death (Il trionfo della morte)” and “Maybe Yes, Maybe No (Forse che sì forse che no)”.
Family
He was the son of Francesco Paolo Rapagnetta D'Annunzio who served as a town mayor. His mother was called Luisa de Benedictis. In 1883, he married Maria Hardouin and was also in a romantic relationship with actress Eleonora Duse. He left behind five children including Italian filmmaker Gabriellino D'Annunzio.
Education
He studied at the University of Rome La Sapienza.
