Known as one of the leaders of the naturalism movement, Gari Melchers won the gold medal from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1932.
Early Life
The artist was raised by his father, Julius Theodore Melchers. He first studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and later went on to practice at the Académie Julian and Ecole des Beaux-Arts.
Career
Melcher's first work, "The Sermon", brought him favorable attention in 1886. His other popular works are "Marriage" in 1893 and “The Sermon” in 1886.
Personal Life
Melchers married Corinne Lawton Mackall in 1903.
