About George Axelrod
George was a producer, screenwriter and director born in New York City. He was the son of Beatrice Carpenter, a silent film actress.
Career
He started his career as a stage manager in summer stock theatre. He was part of the Army Signal Corps during the Second World War. He started writing for radio before moving on to television and was a comedy writer for Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis among others.
He released over four hundred scripts for both radio and television. He got famous for “The Seven Year Itch”, a story about infidelity. In 1955, it was converted into a movie and starred Marilyn Monroe. “Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter” was another one of his really popular writings. It talked about a person selling their soul to the devil to gain success in their writing field. He released three books titled “Blackmailer”, “Beggars Choice” and “Where Am I Now When I Need Me?” and produced five movies, directed two and wrote twelve screenplays.
Death
In June 2003, George, who had been ill for some time and was under hospice care, gave up the ghost.
