Family Life
In 1945, he and Barbara Pierce (Barbara Bush) tied the knot. The couple had six children together, including George Walker Bush and Jeb Bush, the 43rd Governor of Florida.
Trivia
He joined the U.S. Navy when he was 18 years old and went on to become the U.S. Navy’s youngest aviator and one of the youngest naval aviators during World War II.
By the age of 40, he had turned himself into a millionaire by investing in the oil business and starting his own oil company.
He was left devastated in 1953 after his daughter, Pauline “Robin” Bush, died of leukemia two months before her fourth birthday.
