About George Mikan
George Mikan, also known by the moniker “Mr. Basketball”, was a professional American basketball player who spent his entire successful professional playing career with two teams: the Chicago American Gears of the NBL and the Minneapolis Lakers of the BAA, the NBL and the NBA. In addition to being regarded as the pioneer of Modern Age basketball, he is also regarded as one of the greatest professional basketball players of all time.
Personal Life
He was married to Patricia from 1947 until his death in 2005. He and Patricia had six children together, including Larry Mikan.
Achievements
Throughout his career, he won a total of seven NBA, NBL and BAA championships. In 1959, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. In 1996, he was included in the list of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players of all time.
Trivia
He was so successful during his playing career, that the NBA was forced to change some of the rules governing the game in order to reduce his dominance of the game.
