About Hannah Arendt
Hannah Arendt was a German-born American philosopher and political theorist regarded as one of the most prominent political philosophers of the twentieth century. Some of her most notable works include the books The Origins of Totalitarianism and The Human Condition published in 1951 and 1958 respectively.
She was born to Martha and Paul Arendt. She was married twice. Her first marriage was to Günther Anders in 1929. The marriage produced no children and ended in divorce in 1937. Her second marriage was to renowned poet and philosopher Heinrich Blücher. The marriage lasted from 1940 until Heinrich’s death in 1970
The Nazi regime stripped her of her German citizenship in 1937 because she was a Jew. She later fled to the United States to escape the Holocaust and became a naturalized American citizen in 1951.
