About Italo Calvino
Italo Calvino began his career as a writer with the Italian newspaper L'Unità. Between 1959 and 1966, he worked for the Il Menabò di Letteratura magazine. As an author, he was widely known for his trilogy titled “Our Ancestors”. He also won lots of admirers for his 1979 novel entitled “If on a winter's night a traveler” and “Invisible Cities” which was published seven years earlier.
Personal Life
He was the son of an agriculture teacher named Mario. His mother, Giuliana Luigia Evelina Mameli, was also a lecturer at the university. He was the husband of Esther Judith Singer, and together they had a child named Giovanna Calvino.
Education
He attended the University of Turin where he read literature.
Awards
Calvino was one of many successful Italian writers of his generation. Throughout his career, he received many laurels which include Viareggio Prize, Legion of Honour, Bagutta Prize, and World Fantasy Award. He was given an honorary Membership status by the American Academy in 1975.

He helped writers like Andrea De Carlo and Leonardo Sciascia to publish some of their works.
