About James Buchanan
James Buchanan was the 15th President of the United States of America.
Political Career
Before becoming President, Buchanan was a Pennsylvania Senator and House Representative. He was also a Minister to Russia, Secretary of the State, and Ambassador to the United Kingdom. In 1856, James Buchanan became President. He attempted to keep peace between the north and south in the US, but many believe that his attempts only escalated the feud. During his presidency, the south seceded from the US, paving the way for the American Civil War. Because of this peacekeeping failure, Buchanen is often considered one of the worst US Presidents.
