Background & Early Career
He played amateur football for the “Marine Reserves” between 1990 and 1992. However, in 1992, his brilliant performance against Bolton Wanderers prompted the team to sign him for £500 from the Marine Reserves immediately after the match. He then played three seasons at Bolton, helping the team qualify for the FA Premier League and reaching the Football League Cup final in 1995.
Club Career Highlights
In late 1995, Merseyside giants Liverpool signed him for £4.5 million. McAteer became integral to the team and was part of a crop of Liverpool players nicknamed the “Spice Boys.” He achieved 139 caps and scored six goals during his four seasons with the club.
Between 1999 and 2007, he played for Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers, and Tranmere Rovers. However, he announced his professional retirement in May 2007.
International Career
Jasin played for the Republic of Ireland from 1994 to 2004, earning 52 caps and playing at the 1994 & 2002 FIFA World Cups.
