Joan de Beauvoir de Havilland, professionally known as Joan Fontaine, was a talented British-American actress. She is best known for her roles in cinemas during the classical era of Hollywood.
She started professionally acting on stage in 1935 and got her debut lead role in the film “The Man Who Found Himself” in 1937.
In 1978, she published an autobiography titled “No Bed of Roses”.
Family
She was born to Walter de Havilland and Lilian Augusta Ruse de Havilland Fontaine. She had a sister called Olivia de Havilland.
In 1946, she and actor William Dozier got married and welcomed a daughter named Deborah Leslie two years later. They separated in 1949. In 1951, she adopted a Peruvian girl known as Martita.
Achievements
She won the award for “Best Actress” in 1941 at the NYFCC Awards. She also won the “Best Actress” award at the 1942 Academy Awards.
