About Joe Exotic
Joe Exotic is an American felon and former zoo operator who specialized in the breeding of tigers. And whereas for most of his life he was known to relatively few people, he became a certified celebrity in 2020 after Netflix released a hit documentary based on his life entitled “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness”.
Earlier in life he worked as a police officer and even momentarily as a police chief in Eastvale, Texas.
In 2016, he ran for President of the United States, under an independent ticket.
In 2018, Exotic ran for Governor of the state of Oklahoma, this time under the Libertarian ticket.
For two decades he ran an institution called Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park, otherwise known as G. W. Zoo, once again specializing in the taming of tigers. And throughout the years, he toured the country with his pets in addition to streaming his own zoo-based television show.
Personal Life
He is an openly-gay male whose sexual orientation may be traceable back to him being raped by another male as a child. He was born Joseph Allen Schreibvogel. His mother is identified as Shirley.
He got married to Travis Maldonado in 2015. However, their union ended when Maldonado passed away in October, 2017. He later got married to Dillon Passage in December 2017.
Trivia
Exotic has had multiple issues with the law throughout the years. For instance, in 2006 the USDA accused him of basically abusing animals.
Along those same lines he caught the attention of one Carole Baskin, who runs an organization that caters to the likes of abused tigers. In response, he started illegally using the name of her brand, which is Big Cat Rescue. This resulted in a lawsuit in which he was ordered to pay her $1,000,000 in compensation.
He was later locked up in 2018 after attempting to hire a hitman, which was actually an undercover FBI officer, to murder Carole Baskin. He was eventually sentenced to several years behind bars in January of 2019.
He briefly embarked on a country music career, but even that endeavor had its issues.
As of 2020 a television show based on Joe Exotic’s life is also in the works. And he is slated to be portrayed by none other than Hollywood leading man Nicolas Cage.
In March 2020, he sued the United States federal government for damages, amounting to the tune of 94 million dollars. Concurrently, he sent a request for presidential pardon to Donald Trump.
