John A. Alonzo is widely remembered for his role in the development of high-definition videos. The American cinematographer began his career as a member of the clean-up team of a Dallas-based television station known as WFAA. During his time with the network, he started working on lighting, cameras and sets.
Alonzo was a colossus in the television and film industries during the 20th Century and he worked on many successful productions. He was best known for his role in the production of the 1983 Academy Award-winning movie “Scarface”. Some of his other popular works were “Chinatown” and “The Meteor Man”.

He had three children with Suzanne L. Heltzel before the couple divorced in 1966. He later married Jan Murray.
Achievements
He was nominated for an Academy Award and a BAFTA Award for his contribution to the production of “Chinatown”. He won Primetime Emmy Awards' “Outstanding Light Direction” award in 2000.

Alonzo collaborated with Martin Ritt on many projects.
