About Johnny Unitas
Johnny Unitas was an iconic American professional football player who played for the Baltimore Colts from 1956 to 1972 before joining the San Diego Chargers. He went by a number of nicknames including "Johnny U". He is widely considered by many to be among the greatest football players in the history of the NFL.
Personal Life
From 1954 to 1972, he was married to his childhood sweetheart Dorothy Hoelle. The marriage produced five children. He married his second wife Sandra Lemon in 1972. The marriage produced three children and ended when he died in 2002.
Achievements
He was selected ten times for NFL's annual all-star game (Pro Bowl) and won three NFL Championship Games with the Baltimore Colts. In 1979, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Trivia
An elbow injury he sustained during his NFL career left him disabled in the right hand.
He died of a heart attack during a workout.
