About Ken Caminiti
Ken Caminiti was a popular baseball player who was voted the National League’s MVP in 1996. Regarded as one of the most exciting players of his generation, the American third baseman made his MLB debut in 1987 as a member of the Houston Astros following some wonderful performances in the minor leagues.
During his 15 seasons in the league, he featured for teams like the San Diego Padres, and the Atlanta Braves.
Post-retirement
After ending his playing career, Caminiti joined the Padres as one of their spring training instructors. Later, he co-founded the Ashes Cigar Club alongside hockey legend Mario Lemieux and movie star Jason Gedrick.
Family
He was one of the children of Lee and Yvonne Caminiti, and had two siblings named Carrie and Glenn. Between 1987 and 2002, he was the husband of Nancy Smith. Their time together produced three kids named Kendall, Nicole, and Lindsey.
Education
Caminiti graduated from Leigh High School in 1981. He continued his education at San Jose State University.
Honors
He was selected into the All-Star three times. The American baseball star was inducted into the San Diego Padres Hall of Fame and was three times winner of the Gold Glove Award.
Death
According to reports, he took an overdose of heroin and cocaine, which resulted in his death in 2004.
