About Leonard J. Arrington
Credited with revolutionizing the writing of Mormon history, Arrington was the Church Historian of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1972 to 1982. His book, “Brigham Young: American Moses”, won the distinguished Evans Biography Award.

Career Highlights
From 1968 to 1969, Arrington served as the president of the Western History Association. During his tenure as the LDS church historian, he was also appointed as Lemuel H. Red Professor of Western History and director of the Charles Redd Centre For Western Studies at the Brigham Young University. After the disbandment of the LDS Church History division, he functioned as the director of B.Y.U. until he retired in 1987.

Arrington was first married to Grace Fort. After his divorce, he married Harriet Ann Horne. He was a father of three.
