About Linus Torvalds
Computer scientist, Linus Torvalds is best known as the creator of the Linux kernel software. He’s also credited for developing other computer systems and software including Subsurface, and Git.
Family
His parents are called Anna, a journalist, and Nils Torvalds, a politician. His grandfather is a former Finnish statistician called, Leo Törnqvist. He started dating karate champion, Tove, in 1993 and they got married some years later. As of July 2020, they were said to have three children.
Achievements
Torvalds has received lots of individual awards throughout his career. Some of these awards include “IEEE Computer Society Computer Pioneer Award”, “IEEE Masaru Ibuka Consumer Electronics Award”, “EFF Pioneer Award”, and the “Vollum Award”.
In 2008, his name was added to Computer History Museum’s Hall of Fellows for his outstanding work in creating the Linux kernel software. Four years later he became an inductee of the Internet Hall of Fame
Trivia
He attended the University of Helsinki where he studied computer science and graduated with a Master’s degree.
