Madam C. J. Walker was American entrepreneur and philanthropist best known for being the first female self-made millionaire in America and for being the founder of Madam C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company – a company that dealt in beauty and hair products for black women.
Family Life
She was one of six children born to Owen and Minerva Breedlove. She was married three times. Her first marriage was at the age of fourteen to Moses McWilliams, with whom she had her only child Lelia McWilliams. From 1894 to 1903, she was married to John Davis. Her third marriage was to Charles Joseph Walker, from 1906 to 1912.
Trivia
In 1993, she was posthumously inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in Seneca, New York.
