Multiple award-winning American musician Mary Chapin Carpenter was a household name during the 1980s. Starting her career as a performer in local clubs in Washington, D.C., Carpenter began attracting interest after she was signed by Columbia Records.
With the help of the label, she issued her maiden album dubbed “Hometown Girl” in 1987. Five years later, she dropped arguably her most popular album which was entitled “Come On Come On”. She issued her 16th studio album in 2020 titled “The Dirt and the Stars”.
Family
Her parents Mary Bowie Robertson and Chapin Carpenter Jr. divorced when she was a teenager. In 1992, she became the wife of Tim Smith, but eight years later they divorced.
Education
She graduated from Princeton Day School before enrolling at The Taft School. In 1981, Carpenter ended his education at Brown University where she read American Civilization.
Awards
Between 1992 and 1995, she received five Grammy Awards. She also won Country Music Association’s “Female Vocalist of the Year” in 1992 and 1993.
