Mel Dinelli was a writer for radio, film and theatre.
Career Highlights
He featured in the play “Shubert Alley” which was released in 1943 and had been seen in over three hundred and eighty cities within two years of its release. He later worked for CBS Radio when he wrote the drama series “Suspense” for them. He went on to re-write it as a play titled “The Man” and a film titled “Beware, My Lovely”. He worked on nine screenplays including “The Spiral Staircase”, “Step Down to Terror” and “The Reckless Moment” among others.
Personal Life
He was a native of Albuquerque in New Mexico and was named Amelio Dinelli. He gained his education from Albuquerque High School and in 1931, he became a member of the Albuquerque Little Theatre Company. He went on to study theatre arts at Pasadena Playhouse School then went on to the University of Washington.
Death
He died in November 1991 of heart failure.
Achievements
He won the Edgar Allan Poe Awards for “Best Motion Picture” in relation to his movie “The Window”. He shared the award with Cornell Woolrich.
