About Merle Haggard
Merle Haggard was an American country singer and songwriter known for his instrumental role in creating the Bakersfield sound along with his back-up band The Strangers. Throughout his career, he released several dozens of number one hits, including I'm a Lonesome Fugitive, Mama Tried, Daddy Frank, Kentucky Gambler and Natural High.
Personal Life
In 1993, he married Theresa Ann Lane, with whom he fathered two children. Prior to his marriage to Theresa, he was married and divorced four times. He had four children with his first wife Leona Hobbs.
Achievements
Over the course of his career, he won several Academy of Country Music awards and Grammy Awards, among other prestigious awards. He was an inductee into a number of Halls of Fame, including the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. He received the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors in 2010.
