About Michael Spinks
During his amateur stage, American boxer Michael Spinks defeated Wilber Cameron to win the Golden Gloves’ Light Middleweight title which placed him on the road to success. His rise to fame was boosted in 1976 when he won a gold medal at the Summer Olympics.
Spinks began his professional career the following year as a light heavyweight fighter. In 1981, he won the WBA light-heavyweight championship after defeating Eddie Mustafa Muhammad. He became the undisputed champion at the division in 1983 and held the titles for two years before deciding to move to the heavyweight division.
In 1985, he defeated Larry Holmes to win the IBF heavyweight title. He retired from the sport in 1988 following a defeat to Mike Tyson.
Private Life
He’s the younger brother of boxing legend Leon Spinks and the uncle of Cory Spinks, who’s also known to be a boxer. He lost his wife Sandy Massey in 1993. They had a child called Michelle.
Achievements
His successful career has earned him a place in the World Boxing Hall of Fame and the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

BoxRec and the International Boxing Research Organization have both mentioned him in their list of “ten greatest light heavyweights of all time”. He is also known by the moniker "Jinx".
