A golden spikes award-winner, Mike Fuentes is a former American Major Baseball League (MLB) player who played briefly with the Montreal Expos.
Career
This Florida-born player attended Florida State University, where he won the Golden Spikes Award in 1981. He was named Most Valuable Player twice. He was also named to college baseball's All-America team. Fuentes hit an average of .400 batting while playing for Florida State. He led the team to the 1980 College World Series. He had an outstanding 187 runs in his four college years. This college star was drafted in the 1981 MLB draft by the Montreal Expos and made his debut in 1983 at the age of 25. Sadly he was not as successful as he was in College and was released by the club in 1984.
