American actor, Paul Douglas, took a huge gamble when he left his successful radio announcer job to pursue an acting career. It paid off.
Early Life & Career
Douglas attended Yale University, where he took part in drama activities. After graduating, he worked at a CBS radio station as an announcer, where he hosted a music program called “The Saturday Night Swing Club” in the mid to late 1930s.
In 1949, he started appearing in films and is especially noted in his films, “It Happens Every Spring” and “Angels in the Outfield.”
Personal Life
He was married five times. During his fourth marriage to actress Virginia Field, the couple welcomed a daughter. He married his fifth wife Jan Sterling in 1950 and had a son five years later.
Douglas died of a heart attack in 1959.
