Kirk Douglas was a seasoned American actor and producer whose over sixty-year career saw him appear in famous films such as Champion, The Bad and the Beautiful, Lonely Are the Brave and Seven Days in May. One of his most critically acclaimed roles was in the 1952 film Lust for Life where he played the legendary Vincent van Gogh.
Achievements
He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from U.S. President Jimmy Carter in 1981 as well as the French Legion of Honor from France in 1990.
In 1999, he was honored with the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award. President George H.W. Bush gave him the National Medal of Arts awards in 2002.

From 1943 to 1951, he was married to Diana Douglas. He married Anne Buydens in 1954. He had four children, Michael, Joel, Peter and Eric. He was the father-in-law of renowned actress Catherine Zeta-Jones.
