He wed Joanna Drinkhall, a fellow table tennis pro, and the couple have two children.
Career
The Middlesbrough native was very successful as a youth, winning multiple national championships both at levels below and beyond his own age. In December 2008, he finished second at the World Junior Table Tennis Championships. He took home silver in the Men's Team competition and bronze in the Mixed Doubles competition at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games. He won the 2014 Spanish Open, thus, becoming the first English champion in the senior levels since 1996.
Drinkhall won the Serbia Open in 2009, making him the first athlete from England to take home two World Tour victories.
Did You Know?
