About Robert Burns
Robert Burns was a Scottish poet and lyricist known as the national poet of Scotland and one of the pioneers of the Romantic Movement. Some of his well known works include A Red, Red Rose, To a Louse, The Battle of Sherramuir and Ae Fond Kiss. In 2009, he was voted the greatest Scot in a vote organized by STV.
Family Life
He was the eldest of seven children born to Agnes Broun and William Burnes. He fathered his first child, Elizabeth in 1785 with his mother's servant Elizabeth Paton. He married Jean Armour in 1788 and fathered nine children with her.
Trivia
His song Scots Wha Hae served as the unofficial national anthem of Scotland for centuries.
