About Robert Henry Cain
In 1928, Robert Henry Cain became a member of the Honourable Artillery Company. At the beginning of World War II, he was enlisted into the British Army. While with the service, he participated in a number of battles including the ‘Battle of Arnhem’ and the ‘Operation Doomsday’. He left the army as a major.
Personal Life
He was the father of a daughter called Frances, who would later marry Jeremy Clarkson, a renowned journalist. His other children were Helena, Finlo, and Rosemary.
Education
He attended King William's College.
Decorations
Cain was the recipient of many laurels such as the Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Medal, the Defence Medal, and the Victoria Cross.
Facts
After ending his military career, he worked for Royal Dutch Shell, a gas and oil company.
In 1942, he became a member of the South Staffordshire Regiment.
He was the first Isle of Man native to be awarded the Victoria Cross.
