About Sid Gordon
A robustly built man, Sid Gordon made a name for himself in the major leagues. He was a two-time all-star outfielder who played consistently well.
Early Years
He attended Samuel J. Tilden High School and Long Island University. He was noticed by Milford Giants scouts and signed by the Giants as an amateur free agent. The sportsman spent three seasons in the minors and even appeared for the Clinton Giants.
Career
With the New York Giants, he made his MLB debut in 1941; and in 1943, he had.251 hits, 32 strikeouts, and 43 walks. Due to World War II, he missed two seasons, but later returned to the Giants. He joined the Atlanta Braves in 1953, played for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1954, and was dealt back to the New York Giants in 1955. He hung up his boots in 1955.
Family Life
The baseball player wed Mary Goldberg, his high school sweetheart, with whom he had two sons.
His Death
He had a heart attack while playing softball in Central Park on June 17, 1975. He passed away a few hours later.
