He played as an outfielder and first baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals of the Major League Baseball for 22 years. He won 3 World Series championships and he also won the Major League Baseball Most Valuable Player Award 3 times during his career.
He is regarded as one of the best hitters in baseball history. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969.
His Personal Life
He was born in Pennsylvania in 1920. He was married to Lillian Susan Labash and they had 4 children. They were married for 72 years!
From 1964 to 1967, he served as President Lyndon Johnson's physical fitness advisor.
