About Thomas Eakins
Throughout his over four decades career, American painter Thomas Eakins produced over a hundred works. Considered as one of America’s most important artists of all-time, Eakins’ works were mostly about life in Philadelphia, his hometown.
Some of his well-known works were labelled “Max Schmitt in a Single Scull” and “Portrait of Maud Cook”. He was also a well-known photographer and teacher and taught in schools like the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League of New York.
Private Life
His parents were Benjamin Eakins and Caroline Cowperthwait Eakins. He was in a relationship with Emily Sartain before marrying Susan Hannah Macdowell in 1884.
Education
After completing Central High School, he moved to Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He also studied at Jefferson Medical College.
Recognitions
He was elected into the National Academy of Design.
