About Typhoid Mary
Mary Mallon, also known as “Typhoid Mary”, was an American cook best remembered for being the first American to be identified as an asymptomatic carrier of typhoid fever. While working as a cook, she was responsible for infecting at least 50 people with the disease before she was forcibly quarantined.
Trivia
At least three of the people that she infected died from the disease.
She was quarantined by health officials twice. After being released from her first quarantine, she was instructed not to work as a cook again. She however, disobeyed the instruction and went on to work as a cook using a different name. After causing a number of outbreaks of typhoid, she was eventually arrested and quarantined again and spent the rest of her life in isolation.
Today, the term "Typhoid Mary" refers to anyone who either intentionally or unintentionally infects others with a disease or spreads something harmful.
