About Walter Lippmann
Walter was an American journalist and writer who was one of the first people to bring about the “Cold War” concept. He gained the reputation as one of the most influential journalists of his time.
Personal Life
His was born into a well to do Jewish family who traded in textile and real estate business. He got into Harvard University even before he was seventeen. In 1917, he married Faye Albertson but the marriage lasted for twenty years. Later in 1938 he married Helen Byrne Armstrong.
Career
In 1913, he became the founder and editor of The New Republic together with Walter Weyl and Herbert Croly. A few years later, he was sent to the Intelligence part of the AEF Headquarters after he had been made captain in the army.
In 1947, he released the book “Cold War”. Over time, he was known to have been an adviser to different presidents though he never had a formal position.
Achievement
In 1958, he was given the special Pulitzer Prize for Journalism. Also in 1964, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Lyndon Johnson; the 36th President of the United States.
Death
In 1974, he suffered from Cardiac Arrest and passed on.
