The 2021 World Rugby Hall of Fame Inductee, William David Charles Carling, is a former rugby player. As of 2022, he holds the record of being the youngest person to captain the England national team. The Hall of Famer garnered 72 caps from 1988 to 1996 and 5 Nations Grand Slam under his name.
Early Life
Carling grew up in the principal streets of England. As the son of Lieutenant Colonel Bill Carling, much was expected of him. He began his education at the Terra Nova School and developed a passion for rugby. However, his young adult years saw him enlist in the army like his father, but after a year, he enrolled in the University of Durham to study psychology. He later got the chance to go to the University of Cambridge but declined to focus more on rugby.
Career
Carling had a remarkable career as a rugby player. He made his debut for Rosslyn Park and Harlequins in 1988 and became the captain of England's Rugby team at 22. His tenacity and focus won England six Grand Slam championships in the 1990s. Carling carried England through the group stages to the finals but lost to France during the 1995 Rugby World Cup.

Carling married Lisa Carling, and they have 2 children together as of 2021. The rugby star was previously married to Julia Carling from 1994 to 1996.
