About Zbigniew Boniek
Considered one of the greatest football legends to emerge from Poland, Zbigniew Boniek is a former Polish midfielder who played for many top-flight European clubs, including Juventus and Roma. The former footballer played 80 times for Poland, scoring 24 goals. In 2021, he was appointed as a vice president of UEFA, the football governing body in Europe.
Professional Career
Beginning his career with Zawisza Bydgoszcz, Boniek developed as one of the best midfielders of his generation. He was later transferred to play with Widzew Łódź and after a successful career development and earning recognition, he joined Juventus Football Club in 1982.
At Juventus, his professional career soared higher as he earned impressive feet in the team. He steered the team to a Coppa Italia title in his first season. Boniek was a key player in the Juventus team, helping them win the Cup Winners' Cup and Serie A title in 1984.
Although he was mainly noted for the position of a midfielder, he was considered a very versatile player capable of playing the position of a forwarder as well.
Career as Club Manager
After Boniek retired as a footballer, he decided to pursue a career as a coach. He got the opportunity to manage the football club Lecce for the 1990/91 season. In 1992, he coached at Sambenedettese and later moved to Avellino FC in 1994.
In 2002, Boniek worked as the manager for the Polish Football team and in December of that same year resigned.
