His parents named him Andrew Gary Johns. He was a bright young boy who had the talent to go into sports.
Career
He started playing rugby when he was young in New South Wales which was also the town he was born in. In 1989, he joined the Newcastle Knights team and even though he did not really play with the team for some time, he was given a chance in 1994 when the main halfback of the team named Matthew Rodwell got hurt. Despite the game against South Sydney Rabbitohs being his first with the team, he was named Man of the Match and won an award for it. He was with the team from 1993 and stayed with them till 2007. He was a blessing to the team and made them grow while winning games, setting records and breaking records.
In 2005, Johns played for Warrington Wolves with the understanding that he would return to Newcastle Knights. When he returned, things were not as good as before and he struggled to be as impactful as he had been. He had suffered a few injuries including one that was a danger to his spine so in 2007, he decided to retire from the sport.
