About Benjamin Franklin
Benjamin Franklin was a statesman, author, politician and inventor best known as one of the Founding Fathers of the United States of America. Nicknamed “The First American”, he was a member of the committee that drafted the Declaration of Independence. He also drafted and signed the United States’ Constitution.
Personal Life
He fathered an "illegitimate son William Franklin before his common-law marriage with Deborah Read in 1730. Deborah bore him two children, Francis and Sarah.
Achievements
Besides playing an instrumental role in the founding of the United States, he was also a great inventor. His notable inventions include the lightning rod, the Franklin stove and bifocal glasses.
Trivia
His portrait is used on the United States on hundred-dollar bill, leading to the bills being commonly called “Bens”, “Benjamins” or “Franklins”.
