About Branch Rickey
Branch Rickey was a legendary Major League Baseball (MLB) executive and baseball player known for the immense innovations he brought into the major leagues such as designing the modern minor league farm system and introducing the batting helmet. He was responsible for breaking the color barrier in Major League Baseball by bringing the first African American baseball player Jackie Robinson into the major leagues. As a player, he played for the St. Louis Browns and the New York Highlanders.
Trivia
On November 13, 1965, he collapsed while delivering a speech during his election to the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. He never regained consciousness and died 26 days later. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1967, two years after his death.
