About Brian Clough
Even though Brian Howard Clough had a short-lived career as a professional footballer, his ability to easily convert goals as a striker is an important feat which has gone down in the history books of the Football League (now known as EFL). He made his debut in the league with the senior side of Middlesbrough for which he scored 197 goals in 213 appearances from 1955 to 1961.
In 1964, he retired from football due to an injury. He had then been playing with Sunderland in the last three years prior to hanging his boots.
Family Life
He was raised in Middlesbrough alongside seven siblings. He was the husband of Barbara Glasgow, with whom he had a daughter and two sons, including manager and former football player Nigel Clough.
Management Career
He started his career as a football manager in 1965. He was remembered best for his time at Derby County and Nottingham Forest. He also managed Hartlepools United, Leeds United and Brighton & Hove Albion.
Death
He died on 20 September 2004 from stomach cancer.
