About Camille Pissarro
Camille Pissarro was a Danish-French painter best remembered for being a key figure in the Impressionism and Post-Impressionism movements. His notable paintings include 1873's The Banks of the Oise near Pontoise, 1896's Pont Boieldieu in Rouen, Rainy Weather and 1901's Hay Harvest at Éragny.
Family Life
He was born to Frederick Pissarro and Rachel Petit Pissarro. In 1871, he got married to Julie Vellay, who was initially worked as a maid for his mother. The marriage produced seven children, including Lucien Pissarro, who grew up to become a renowned painter and printmaker.
Trivia
Four of his seven children became famous painters.
His 1897 painting Le Boulevard de Montmartre, Matinée de Printemps sold for £19.9 million in 2014.
