About Charlie Gardiner
Charlie Gardiner was very influential as a professional goaltender in the National Hockey League. He played in the league for seven seasons for the Chicago Black Hawks. He made his debut in 1927 and worked hard to become one of the league’s best goaltenders. He also served as a captain of the Hawks and till date remains the only goalie to lead his team to win a Stanley Cup in the capacity of a captain.
Family Life
The Scottish-born hockey legend was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada from age seven. He had four siblings. He had a son named Robert Roy with his wife, Myrtle Brooks.
Achievements
He won one Stanley Cup and two Vezina Trophies. He was made an inductee of the Hockey Hall of Fame and of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.
Death
He died on June 13, 1934 at 29 years old from a tonsillar infection-induced brain hemorrhage.
